Never Mind There ARE Troubles at Arsenal

So I stood up for Arsene Wenger last week in my article Are There Any Troubles at Arsenal? and now he just goes and make me look like an idiot with that SHOCKING performance. Now, I'm a Man United fan, but even I would never have thought that United would've scored eight goals! And some of them, to be fair, were pretty spectacular, especially the 2 Rooney free-kicks and the Ashley Young long shots-that one could be the Paul Scholes of the future!

But others were down to downright crap Arsenal defending. United's first goal was an example, with Johan Djorou not even trying to catch an Anderson lob pass while Szczesny seemed to be too lazy to rush and clear the ball, resulting in a pass that shouldn't even have troubled the Gunners defense making its way to Danny Welbeck to nod home with the head. And the fifth by Nani was just a joke as Arsenal look to play the offside trap on an open Nani except Toure fell asleep to play Nani onside. The fantastic Rooney makes a pretty good pass to him, and he cheekily dinks the ball past the onrushing Szczesny. A few other notable moments include Koscielny Lee Cattermole-ing Young who had somehow gotten in behind the defense (hmm...maybe that lofted pass from Nani had something to do with it) and from the resulting free kick Rooney scored, Carl Jenkinson becoming the third Gunner in 3 games to be sent off and the defenders virtually shooing Park in to score the 6-1 goal.

The Gunners' attack fared little better. The only meaningful chance they created during the first 45 minutes was a ludicrous penalty which saw Walcott all but dive over Jonny Evans but Webb, who already had a handful of questionable decisions in the Newcastle v. Sunderland game (just ask Joey Barton), pointed to the spot! No worries though as RVP shoots perhaps the worst penalty I've ever seen in Premier League football and de Gea made a comfortable save. Well, though Walcott did get a goal, it was down to de Gea's random mistake by letting the ball through his legs and Arsenal's only good move of the match allowed RVP to slightly redeem himself with a good half-volley, but at that time the score was already 6-2.

There were some great performances and goals from Young and Rooney, but they only scored 5 goals between them and the other 3 in the 8-2 rout were down to bad Gunners' defending, making a humbling 5-2 scoreline into a devastating 8-2 one, made all the more painful as this is the first league game in which Arsenal had let in 8 goals since 1896. Great morale boost for the players, eh?

For United, this was just another masterclass showing from the young lads Cleverly, Jones, Welbeck (until he was injured-shame really) and Anderson and the old boys in Rooney and Nani and the new signing in Young. For Arsenal, well, a lot of work needs doing.
