So you guys have all heard about Arsenal's recent woes at the transfer market and on the pitch, yes? Well, if you haven't, Arsenal have just sold arguably their best players in Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri to Barcelona and Man City respectively as well as Carlos Vela (to Real Sociedad) and Emmanuel Eboue (to Galataseray). Their replacements? Emmanuel Frimpong, Carl Jenkinson, Ignasi Miquel and Aaron Ramsay. Well, the headlines have been screaming for Wenger's head after these decisions, mainly because Wenger hasn't used the Fabregas/Nasri transfer fees to buy any world-class talent.
I think that Wenger actually knows what he's doing. Looking at the squad that faced Udinese yesterday, it still looks like a good Premier League squad! Szczesny is a much better keeper than Almunia ever was, and the back 4 is actually pretty experienced if it weren't for Jenkinson who was anyways only in the squad thanks to Koscielny's injury. The midfield already looks solid with two prime defensive midfielders in Song and the young energetic Frimpong (whose only weakness is his temper) as well as a Theo Walcott back to his best and the up-and-coming Aaron Ramsay, and don't forget that Wenger ditched Wilshere for the Udinese game for some reason. The front duo of van Persie and Gervinho are quite simply world-class. Van Persie's only weakness is fitness and injuries (I swear they get him every season.) while Gervinho scored 15 goals in the always defense-heavy French Ligue 1 last season to help Lille to their league title.
So, what's the worry? Although I don't think Arsenal will be better off without Fabregas/Nasri, they still have a pretty decent squad. Arsenal fans are an ungrateful lot, seeing as Wenger led them to their first EPL title since who knows when. The club is in a transition phase, and Wenger is doing his best with it. So lay off his back you people! He knows what he's doing!
